ah, thanks for the heads up. it’s one of those little annoying things i have to do manually. there may be a way to automate it, but i haven’t looked into it too deeply.

but nope, never a break! haven’t missed an update yet. but occasionally, my techspertise is a little lacking.

Woo! You’re at #103 this morning! I’m gonna do what I can to push that higher. And by the way, I’d never shoot someone in the junk. I have never even kicked a guy that way. I have too much empathy. I’m a lot more likely to bonk someone in the head with a ball peen hammer lol

well, i’m not sure how much the TWC ranking helps at all, but as an indicator of how rabid my fan base is, i’m pretty stoked!

i think junk shooting requires a certain lack of empathy. but, in this case, i think it was more about the old school style of retaliatory justice of it. at least in her mind. but i’m glad to hear you’ve never done any hacky sacking. maybe it’s naive to think you’ve never been pushed that far, but i have a feeling it’s just a line you didn’t cross, but would have been justified in doing so.

    Thanks for the link.
Can you post it somewhere permanent on your comic?

sure! i pit a link to it up in the top. it’s the little comic bubble icon. they didn’t have one for towebcomics in this plugin, but i figure that will do.

Sure thing. How can I vote for you on TWC without looking for you under the Sci Fi category?

Unless you are implying how Virgil speaks, it’s “Your hearing ain’t bad.” to indicate the second person possessive. What you’ve written is a contraction. You know, like a seizure … or possible a chattel conversion.

I am really digging Sandrine’s dialog, but what’s really getting me curious is Virgil. If I understand correctly, he’s either a human brain in a robot body or a fully unlocked AI. In either case, I am wondering what his motivation for money and power are. Was losing a hand as physically/psychologically impacting as losing a human hand? Is there some version of robot drugs? Can he still feel physical pleasure or pain? Does he have a desire for companionship (generally speaking, not specifically romantic)?

    …

Great, now I am thinking of B&B as a visual novel dating sim where every path eventually ends in you getting a fatal crotch shot. Possibly with an homage to this death screen.

curiosity is good. but, you’re unlikely to get ALL the answers. i think one of the problems creators find with their work is that trap, where they go back, and answer every little question with a back story. looking at you, ‘solo, a star wars story’.

a friend of mine who writes shared with me a technique that some famous writer uses. i can’t remember who. what they do, is they have a back story for every character. they might write out scenes, and ideas, and flesh it out in their mind, but then never do anything with it. i think the thought is that it creates nuance and even if readers aren’t sure why, they feel it.. virgil and others have their own backstories, but i don’t ever intend to do anything with them.

haha, maybe i’ll do it like a choose your own adventure book. every story ends when you are told to turn to the ‘you’ve been shot in the junk!’ page.

Yes, I use that technique as well. I know you can’t give all the answers, and the story might not even permit answering any of them. As long as you have them the story will come across consistently.

It’s good to avoid the trap of thinking you can’t have unanswered questions, or that you need to completely build out a world before finishing your story. I cannot imagine how much I’d despise B&B if you randomly decided to jump away from what we’re seeing now to dedicate 1/8 of your story to some other city. Let’s just call it “Dorn”. It’s a name I pulled out of a hat. I mean, can you imagine if B&B suddenly jumped to Dorn (the totally random name I came up with) because someone mentioned it before, and you’re worried you readers won’t get a full picture of the scope of your planning for the story unless you push out Tyrion showing up again to another book because you can’t stop worldbuilding and introducing an entire new cast who will never be seen again and don’t matter?

What? Oh. Uh. That’s another name I randomoly came up with. “Tyrion” I mean.

So yeah! Don’t worry about providing all the answers. You guys are using a good technique and it’s appreciated.

awww…. i liked dorn. but mostly cause i liked the hot warrior gals. the rest of it didn’t work. it didn’t feel very integrated to the story, and that’s a shame. then again, i only watched the show, i didn’t read the books. and from what people tell me, they are 2 entirely different experiences.

but i don’t know who ‘you guys’ are that you’re referring to. it’s 1 guy. me! i wish i had a team. i could make them do all the grunt work. or even, ALL the work, grunt or otherwise! haha
