contest of ruin (free shirt, read on)
So, people never tell me (but for the sake of this BS story, whatever), “Jason, you’re devilishly handsome, and sorta ok at doing art, why don’t you publish, go on patreon, use advertising, or otherwise monetize your ‘little webcomic…. thing'”?
I always say, “thanks fake person who even in my own fantasy was still barely complementary, and kinda condescending. I hope the readership I’ve got so far likes what I’m up to, and making money, maybe even breaking even would be the dream, patreon isn’t really my style, and while I do use advertising, I don’t really think my site will make money from advertising out”.
I think it’s time to post some stuff (as it occurs to me to produce it) on zazzle, and eventually compilation issues for print. So this is the beginning of my ‘Black and Blue Store’ page. Click the link here to own your very own ‘Virgil Lies’ shirt. I get a small royalty, and you get a shirt that will most certainly make sure you have no luck with women the day you wear it. But this shirt isn’t just for the gentlemen. Ladies, you too can be just as unappealing as your male nerd counterpart, as friends question your fashion choices.
This also kicks off a little lottery I would like to do. A free shirt to one dubiously lucky reader. For the next 2 weeks, anyone who links ‘black and blue’ on social media, facebook, twitter, whatever, and sends me a link to the post, gets their name in the hat. It’s a nice hat. Your name wants to be in there.
So, on jan 18th, I will have a name chosen, and that’ll be that. But, you’re more than welcome to just order one for yourself from zazzle at the link provided.
Onto a movie you need to watch.
Sweet jebus this is a good movie. Watch it immediately. Like now. Why are you still reading this? Ok, keep reading. I’m not the boss of you. Yet.
Macon Blair (yeah, i don’t know either) plays Dwight, a homeless man, laid low by the loss of his parents, who learn that the man who murdered them was paroled. Man, revenge flicks. Out of the past flicks, like ‘Out of the Past’, they set up such a great opportunity forĀ backstory.
Violent, and dark, and thoroughly depressing. Mr Blair, while not leading man handsome, seems real, and worthy of your interest. the other actors, none of them A-list celebs, all did a good job of seeming like thug nobodies. And I think that’s important. People who don’t seem to know how to write story work on body count. But if someone makes you think that even some guy who was only on screen for a moment had a rich and interesting past before he died…. this movie is so big cause it focused on the small.
Great quote from a FB discussion about HM – “If she’d been (even just a little!) quicker about getting dressed, she could have saved her village instead of avenged it”.
augh, wrong page! this is supposed to be under the Heavy Metal discussion!
haha, for a minute, i was like… huh? but you’re right, come to think of it. on one hand, lady warrior, very competent, very pro feminism message.
on the other hand, women. always taking forever to get ready to go out….
On a related note, I would wear (and wear out, likely) a shirt with your “Take the fucking kittens” sketch on it.
if you look to the right, where it offers other shirt styles, there’s a small button that says ‘show all styles’, which should allow someone to choose the design for pullovers and sleeveless tees.
if you ‘win’ (and thanks for pitching in, and send me a link, if you can) i can do it for ya. when i get a chance, i’ll post the box ‘o kittens sketch for sale too. you never know what people might go for!
I still only see a baggy tank top for guys. So many sites discriminate against wife-beating girls XD Here is the link to my post. I didn’t really know what to write, so if I left out something you would like it to say, feel free to tell me. Don’t expect any bites until my crowd is done with the holidays, though: http://molotovcoqteeez.tumblr.com
thanks so much for putting it out there! much appreciated.
weird that it won’t let you change that option. i’m not familiar with all the ins and outs of zazzle yet, so i just reposted it for sale on the lady’s sleeveless tee.
I like the shirt, but I have a serious aversion to sleeves and didn’t see a women’s tank top option. I’ll never be one of the cool kids at this rate! Also, I don’t wear hats. I will, however, happily throw your name around on whatever social media I happen to pass through today. Sometimes internet people listen to me. Maybe it will help.
