My question is, how did the robot get the disguise wrong?

Oh, there’s a lot of good explanations for this…

If I recall correctly, the robots aren’t just simple hard drives and parts that can easily be swapped out. They were intentionally made to have some degree of uniqueness and sentience. So that gives us two likely possibilities here:

        1) The only way to really have robots that seem like humans is if their minds are imperfect, capable of error (even if there’s a RNG that makes them have errors on purpose), and imperfect memory could be a part of that. Add to that the other problem that robots can’t just download and upload their minds to offline storage. They’d need to forget things and have some kind of compression method for visual data (which is notoriously beefy) so it may be some error along the way of storing all that led to the right image winding up on the wrong side.

        2) It may be Mr. Void only saw Alice in parts. It’s not like she’d stand around letting him get a scan of her, and to be able to do a full 3-D image that can move, he’d either need to reassemble her from parts or she’d take up tons of space. This leaves open the possibility when he saw her missing guts he didn’t know which way she was facing, assigned it to the wrong side, and when he put all the parts he saw back together to render himself as Alice that part got mirrored.

        • Whoops, forgot one

          Left out #3:

Mr. Void seemed kind of sadistic back when he interrogated the daughter’s mentor. It’s possible he put the hole on the wrong side so he could gloat about how dumb Gibson was (or the Queen told him to do that).

Oh Very nice – I am embarrassed to admit I missed the robot-gut switch. Last episode had me very confused.
    Great stuff!
