Gawsh I love the Grins. Read this part when I first came by, as a taster. They seem a lot more reasonable now.

yeah, i guess they would make a little more sense in full context. not ALL the sense, just more. thanks for reading!

I’m a dual citizen – Canadian and American – because I naturalized as a minor, and therefore both nations recognize me as their own.
I get to have Thanksgiving TWICE! The adjustable belt people love me this time of year. I’m like a Hobbit.

well as a dual citizen, you will be able to back me up. in canada, it’s just not as big a deal here. then again, i only american tv to base that on, but from what i see, on the news, and on programs, thanksgiving in the states seems like it’s about as big as chrismas.

but yup. fatten up a little. get nice and thicc for the below zeros. haha

It’s not all that big in our house either. If we’re lucky, we have “Orphans” over too (those who can’t get home, or those who can’t face contrary arguments). We just use it as an excuse to pick a country and form our menu plans around the cuisine of that company. We did Scandinavian last year, loved it!

      scandanavian? that sounds different.

orphan holidays are great, cause you get to pick and choose. no asshole uncles, or jerky aunts. and i think more so than ever, that seems to be an issue, from what i gather watching american tv. the prospect of going home and getting into a 3 day argument certainly would certainly be stressful.

If you’re on Facebook, you can see my profile, then pick the album “Food Pr0n”. In it you’ll see a few of our holiday dinners. We’ve done British, Scandinavian, Greek… maybe a few more. We haven’t picked a country yet for Christmas, but I will soon.

One of the recipes we loved was lemon crusted potatoes (they’re oven fried “steak chips”.

And it’s amazing to me that no one ~is talking politics. It was common when I was young and my grandparents were still alive. I don’t know Why Exactly that ppl now won’t air their views, or even talk about all the candidates. It’s NOT a bid to “change someone else’s views”, but instead, have an open dialog about politicians and how silly or stupid or .

Hopefully we’ll get back to that State of Mind … I read a quote recently, from Abraham Lincoln, made after the Civil War. So, we DO have precedence for our current political divisions.

actually, i ditched my FB when it was getting hard to ignore how invasive they were being. haven’t looked back. but that sounds awesome. nice to have your own traditions. more personal than just doing what someone else did just cause. let me know what you do for xmas, i’m curious.

great, now i want lemon potatoes. the little lady does em up good.

i think people used to disagree more politely. or at least that’s the sense i get. people with differing opinions used to want essentially the same thing, but maybe had different ideas on how to get it. that’s my guess anyways. i’m happy enough not to discuss politics with people unless i get the sense that your idea of politics is mean spirited or malicious to any one group of people. if you can’t adopt a ‘live and let live’ policy AT LEAST, well, i just can’t be around that kind of person. it’s that whole saying, if you can’t say something nice…..

We still haven’t decided on nationality for the Yule dinner. But I’ll be sure to drop in here to let you know so you can either: be jealous; or emulate.

One big good thing the ‘Net has done is to introduce the good parts of other cultures as well as the “bad” parts. I’ll even give you some urls, that will have good recipes on them.

Here’s the Greek lemon potatoes link:

            https://www.mygreekdish.com/recipe/crispiest-greek-lemon-potatoes-patates-lemonates/

And I agree entirely on the live and let live policy.

In looking up that lemon potatoes recipe, I found that last January, I’d postulated
Russian Christmas dinner. The links are there, so I’ll be checking that out. (Sorry about the OT.)
