Eyes up, Hands out
so, at long last, my patreon page is launched. it’s still in it’s roughest form, but in time, i’ll add more to it, and flesh it out. but, that’s no reason i can’t get it up and running, and see who’s interested.
the biggest reason i wasn’t into doing any crowdfunding, or patreon site, was that i didn’t want to ask for something and give nothing in return. hey, i worked hard to get every one of my fans, and i work just as hard to keep you guys (and gals) coming back. so, my pledge to you, is that i will keep my patreon feed updated all the time with stuff for patrons at all levels, and any money i make, will go into funding a print job, at some point. i’d really like to give some of my most loyal and vocal fans free copies at some point. that might not happen soon, but it will happen.
but more than anything, this is just a baby toe in the water, to see how people feel about supporting black and blue beyond dropping by and reading the updates. and if that’s where you’re cool with it, no problem! but check it out, and let me know what you think, and if you have any comments or suggestions, let me know!
on to something you should all be watching, ‘Ash vs Evil Dead’
A couple years ago, there was a remake of the evil dead. sort of a reboot in a way, cause ash wasn’t there, and neither was the humour. ok, so you’re left with a pretty gory horror movie, which, maybe could have stood up on it’s own. but we’ll never know cause they attached it to the evil dead franchise.
but with that free boost in interest you also set yourself up to having to meet expectations, and as anyone who associated with the new ghostbusters movie can tell you, people on the internet like to to freak out over nothing. i can’t throw stones. but ultimately, if you don’t like it, don’t go see it. or start a webcomic, and then occasionally, and carefully freak out in posts no one reads….. not me…. i mean, a friend i know….
where is this going? the movie wasn’t great, but the new series works very well. the humour is back, probably largely in part that they got sam raimi, the original creator, back on the series. and it’s as close to the original magic as it could be.
which i think is where we can find an important lesson here. if you can’t do something like the original, why are you doing it? and if you just want the original again, why bother? i’m looking at you, Robocop……
*funfact, i saw ‘evil dead – the musical’ on one of the first dates with my now wife. i didn’t know where were were going, i was wearing a white tee shirt, with tickets in the ‘splash zone’. the girl in the trap door popped up, saw my bright white tee, and i got a cup full of artery juice right in the chest. good times. so i figured i’d keep the chick after that. oddly, evil dead works as a musical. i know, right?
He did! If I remember right he just pulled up in his car, took one look, smiled into the camera, and said “Groovy.” You didn’t miss much.
The woman we worked for was super religious and anti-smoking. Neither of these were a problem for me. It gave me a chance to quit smoking and tone down my sailor’s swearing. However, she also basically viewed men as chattel, expecting them to lift unsafe weight with minimal help or safety rigging. After driving five hours away and hauling furniture down three narrow flights of beach house stairs for six more, Husband lit up a smoke. Her bible-thumping brat told on him, and she called to fuss at him. He very calmly and politely informed her that it wasn’t really her problem anymore. He was just finishing out the day and waiting for the ride back. Then of course I had to quit too, for solidarity. Might not make sense to some, but it had to be done. Something else will come along. *Shrugs*
Now that you mention, except for the crazier eyes you are exactly right about all cereal mascots!
yeah, i went back to see what i missed in ‘evil dead’, and you’re right. it was there, but it wasn’t much. guess they couldn’t get him to commit more than that. haha
well that really sucks. sorry to hear. what does she care how he spends his breaks? anyways, if i’ve learned anything, it’s that you don’t get your way by harassing people into seeing your point, and that goes double for smokers. people tend to go insane with even the slightest amount of power over another person. fingers crossed something else pops up soon for ya.
and yeah, cereal mascots are all cartoon nightmares.
That remake was weird, and like you I think it destroyed itself by piggybacking on the Evil Dead name when it could have been decent as a regular horror movie. Ash did pop up after the credits, but all the catchphrases in the world wouldn’t help that movie be a cult classic. I’m glad I have you to test the waters for me on the show, because I had already written it off exactly because I saw the movie. Now I know it’s safe!
Your Patreon page is great! If Husband and I had not needed to leave our seemingly serendipitous new jobs I would definitely be the first one to subscribe. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t get many subscribers at first. It’s my understanding that the Christmas month gets kind of lean even for established Patreon people.
Harold of Fudge-Yums fame is terrifying and I don’t want to exist in the world where he does o_o’
he did? i’ll have to rewatch the end. i mean, it was rather forgettable, by the end. even if it did have some pretty gory moments.
thanks for the patreon props, it’s up, we’ll see how it goes. and no worries, you gotta take care of your own monetary concerns first. but sorry to hear about the jobs falling through, that sucks! what happened?
and yeah, harold was meant to be everything terrible about soulless consumerism. the funny thing is, i don’t think he’s all that different from any other cereal mascot. if you take a look at the cereal isle sometime with fresh eyes, i think it would seem pretty grotesque.
